"alpannonia - hiking boundlessly" is a hiking trail network that stretches from the alpine region in Styria and Lower Austria to the plains of Hungary. The trail network consists of a main route and various regional routes. The main route has two starting points in the alpine region (Fischbach and Semmering) and Kőszeg as the endpoint at the last foothill of the Alps in Hungary. Tourist important locations are connected to the main route by regional routes within this network.
Leírás
The official start of the alpannonia® hiking trail is at the valley station Hirschenkogel at Semmering. Those who want to ease the first ascent from the mountain pass can use the gondola (operating times: www.semmering.com) . The trail leads from the mountain station to the Sonnwendstein with its wonderful views of the Styrian-Lower Austrian Kalkalpen. From Sonnwendstein, you then hike via the Arzkogel to the wine trail towards Feistritzsattel. Along the further route (almost exclusively through forest with occasional beautiful views) there is also some information about the Gebirgsjäger Memorial Trail. At Feistritzsattel, you meet the main route coming from Fischbach. Here begins a larger ascent of the route to the second highest point, the Hochwechsel at an altitude of 1743 m. Already before Hochwechsel, at the Kranichberger Schwaig, a panoramic section begins leading over Hochwechsel, Niederwechsel to the Mönichkirchner Schwaig. On this section, views are offered into the Vienna Basin, the Graz Basin and far into Hungary. From Mönichkirchen over Hochneukirchen to Bernstein, the hiking trail leads through the hilly landscape of the Bucklige Welt and Burgenland. The route is characterized by sections alternating between forest, meadows and fields and repeatedly offering views in various directions. From Bernstein, the trail leads with small ascents and descents over Goberling to Unterkohlstätten. Here begins the final larger ascent of the route to the Hirschenstein and the Geschriebenstein with 883 meters elevation. With the summit of Geschriebenstein and the observation tower located there, you also reach the Austria/Hungary state border. In the Hungarian section of the alpannonia hiking trail, it then goes downhill with some small counter climbs until finally reaching the plains in the center of Kőszeg.
