Óház Aussichtsturm
Leírás
The town of Kőszeg takes its name from the castle that once stood here (Castrum Kwszug), which was probably built in the 13th century as a border guard. In 1260, the Németújvári family received the castle as a gift. Over the centuries, the castle lost its importance and gradually fell into disrepair.
As early as the 19th century, there was a wooden lookout tower in the area of the former castle walls, later made of stone, but it collapsed during a storm in 1916. The lookout tower has existed in its current form since the early 1990s. The Óház - or old house - lookout tower is now a popular excursion destination.
On nice days, it offers a magnificent view of Kőszeg, Szombathely, Somló and neighboring Austria.
